
In a new National Post opinion, Marcus and former Senator Stanley Kutcher argue that Canada’s growing defence partnership with Ukraine should be matched by a tougher response to hostile Russian state activity inside Canada. They call on Ottawa to review Russia’s unusually large diplomatic presence and expel officials found to be using diplomatic status for intelligence, intimidation, disinformation or other activities incompatible with their roles.
Drawing on a recent incident outside the Russian Embassy in Ottawa and Estonia’s experience confronting similar behaviour, Marcus and and Stanley Kutcher argue that diplomatic accreditation cannot become a shield for hostile-state activity. They urge Canada to impose clear consequences when Russian officials cross that line.
