Every night, Russian Shahed/Geran drones—built with Chinese components—rain terror on Ukrainian cities. They destroy homes, hospitals, and critical infrastructure, killing civilians and forcing families to live in constant fear. I have watched this horror unfold for over two years, and I cannot accept Canada’s inaction any longer.
If we are serious about defending democracy and human rights, we must sanction the Chinese tech companies that supply the parts for these drones. This is not a symbolic gesture—it’s a practical step to cut off the flow of lethal technology to Vladimir Putin’s war machine.
Canada has done this before. We have targeted Russian and Iranian entities complicit in war crimes. There is no reason Chinese companies enabling the same atrocities should escape accountability.
We also need to work with our allies to ensure these sanctions are coordinated and enforced. Closing loopholes and tightening export controls will make it harder for authoritarian regimes to bypass restrictions.
Canada’s values mean nothing if we fail to defend them. Sanctioning these Chinese companies is not just the right thing to do—it’s the necessary thing to do to stop the machinery of terror.
